Morning Sun. Vestal, New York. 21-Oct 2015

I've been a fairly serious amateur photographer since the summer of 2013. If I specialize in anything, it's black-and-white/monochrome, with a special fascination for street and long-exposure. I don't always go for moody, but I tend to prefer it.
I don't embrace the idea of photography as visual record. Rather, I see it as a way to bring out moods and impressions latent in a scene — the photograph, in other words, as a memory of something that may or may not have ever happened.
By trade I'm a classicist, with a specialization in Greek literature, though currently my interests extend to Latin as well as Greek sources, and to the Roman Mediterranean generally. I teach in the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at Binghamton University. I currently have one book out and am working on another.
